Michael is a grandad in our class.
He made his communion 57 years ago!
We heard really interesting things about making communion so long ago.
Here are some of the interesting things we learned:
Mass was in Latin, not in English or Irish
The priest did not look at the people, he looked at the back of the altar
Boys wore short trousers until they went to secondary school
You could not eat or drink anything at all before receiving communion every Sunday
First communion was made on Sundays rather than on Saturdays
After making communion, everyone went home to have breakfast (not dinner!)
Children visited the nuns after they made their communion, and the nuns gave them sweets to eat
A huge Thank You to Michael for such an interesting talk (and of course for the sweets).
