Solid or liquid?

We mixed 2 cups of cornflour with 1 cup of water.
The paste looked like a liquid.
When we tapped it with our fingers it was quite clear that it was a solid.
We could make balls out of it like play doh, but..............
when we stopped rolling it, it turned back into a liquid and slid through our fingers.
Messy but magic!

Goodbye Cannon Michael Mulkerrins

After 11 years in our parish and on our school Board of Management, we are very sorry to hear that Cannon Michael is retiring.
We wish him all the best in the future.

Fun relays

We had fun throwing, catching and bouncing relay races in PE

Releasing our butterflies

3 of our butterflies hatched beautifully.
One has crumpled wings and one is still stuck half in its cocoon.
We released them all.  We hope they fly away to a happy life.

Pentominoes

Pentominoes are puzzle pieces made of 5 blocks each.
Some look like letters or numbers.
You can fit them together to make other shapes.
We had lots of fun with these today.

Games galore

We had fun trying out various different games:
We played at the post office.  We enjoyed buying stamps, paying for licences, sending and receiving parcels.
Some of us had fun with a giant game of Snakes and Ladders.
We made some interesting patterns with the tiny Hama beads.

We have a butterfly

We have our first butterfly. We are waiting for 4 more now.  We have given our butterfly sugared water to drink and some nice fresh flowers for its garden.

The science of bubbles

In our classroom we talked about bubbles.
They are always spheres no matter what the bubble wand is like.
They have interesting colours, but lose most of their colours just before they burst.
You can make them go the way you want by moving the air beside them.
They will burst if they land on your hand or anything else, unless your hand is covered in bubble liquid.
 BUBBLES ARE FUN!

10s game

We play a great game where one child at each table is a banker.
The other children at the table take turns throwing a dice.
They get a matchstick or 1c or a diennes block for each number they throw.
When they have 10 of these matchsticks or 1c or diennes blocks they swop them for a a lolly stick, 10c or a diennes tower.  It is a fun game, and will help us learn addition easier in 1st class.
