Handa's Surprise

Thursday, April 26th, 2012
We have been reading a really nice story called "Handa's Surprise".
In this story Handa puts seven different delicious fruits in a basket to take to her friend Akeyo as a surprise.  But Handa's walk takes her past a variety of animals, and the fruits do look very inviting......
We read this book and watched the DVD of this story and of the story of Handa's Hen.
We had lots of interesting questions and comments on the story and we especially loved reading about all the different types of fruit, especially after our food tasting day yesterday.

Our plants have roots

 Thursday, April 26th, 2012
We planted seeds last Thursday.  Today we took off the front panel of our Root View container, and sure enough we can see the roots, stems and leaves of the radishes and the turnips.  The other seeds have not begun to grow yet.

More about our senses

Using our sense of sight, we saw the lovely goldfish "Nemo" that Thomas from Room 8 brought in for us to see.

We are learning lots of nice songs about our senses. Have a look at these interesting links that we use in class.

Cluiche gaeilge

Bhí craic againn inniu le cluich gaeilge.  Tá cárta ag gach páiste.  Iarann sí/sé ar dhuine eile "An bhfuil liathróid /carr/cáca/capall agat?" Faigheann sé/sí an freagra "Tá/Níl liathróid /carr/cáca/capall agam.
Má tá péire ann is féidir leis an beirt suíodh síos, ach muna bhfuill athraíonn siad na cártaí arís, agus ar aghaidh leo arís. Bhain muid an-taitneamh as an cluiche seo.

My senses

Our sense of hearing.  We played a game whereby we had to find Dino (our class dinosaur) by listening to whether our classmates clapping was soft and slow (we were really cold) or fast and loud (we were very close)

Our Worm Hotel and Ant Farm are ready

Thursday, April 19th, 2012
Today teacher got the ant hotel ready for us.  It is filled with sand and soil.  Teacher will bring some ants from her garden at home, and we should be able to see the ants digging tunnels.  We know a nice song about ants.
We also got our wormery ready.  We filled it with layers of soil, sand and compost.  It looks so nice and comfortable for the worms that we call it a worm hotel.  All we need now is to fill it up with worms!

Sowing seeds

Bugs and insect maths

We also made a data chart of our insects and bugs, and we chatted about which set has the most/least and how many more/less are in one set than another.
