Number bonds: The story of 5

We are getting really good at writing out number stories.
We use lots of different manipulatives and our whiteboards to record our findings.
We will get lots of practice at this over the next few weeks.
We are already very good at the story of 10.  That is because we are used to counting our golden tickets and telling teacher how many more we need to get a prize!

A wonderful bird

This is a bird I made at home.
It really is lovely.

A solid or a liquid?

We have been talking about materials: what are they made from? what do you use them for? are they solids or liquids?
We have watched some interesting Tigtag films about solids and liquids.
Today we made a really interesting solid/liquid.
Teacher had a  bag of cornflour.  She mixed it in a basin with water.
The mixture looked like a liquid and it poured like a liquid, but we could make balls out of it, and it was hard when we punched it so it must be a solid too.
It is called a non Newtonian liquid and it acts like a liquid unless force is applied, then it turns into a solid.
We love this gloop and we watched a really interesting video clip about it.

Advent wreaths

It is nearly Advent.
During Advent we will be preparing for Christmas.
We will hear the Christmas story, sing Christmas songs and light the candles on the Advent wreath.
Today we had fun painting, cutting and sticking our own Advent wreaths.
Thanks Mikel for all your help with our artistic work today.

Number bonds: the story of 4

Today we were learning all about making the number 4.
Teacher showed us all the ways in which we could write the story of 4.
4+0=4, 3+1=4, 2+2=4, 1+3=4, 0+4=4
Here are the things we used to help us divide up 4 things into two groups.

Balancing and beam work

We are still doing lots of gymnastics.  Today we did lots of balancing.
We could balance on one leg and then on no legs at all.
We could balance on our tummies, on our bums, on two hands and a foot......
on one shoulder and one leg, on two feet and one hand....
on two hands and a foot, on our backs....
and on our tummies!
We could walk along the beam and jump along the beam.
We can even do fancy dipped walks on the beam.
We got so good on the beam, that teacher turned the bench over and we did our beam exercises on even smaller beams.
We are so good at gymnastics.

Maths work

We are working really hard at our maths.
Teacher has some great EDpaX Maths CDs for the whiteboard.
We work on our mini whiteboards and help teacher get all the right answers.

Working with LEGO

This week is EU Code Week
We are having fun coding with LEGO

We made some really nice LEGO creations this morning.
Look at our wonderful house.
 We made a trophy!
I made a LEGO police car!
Here we are working on our robotics!
We are getting good at coding/programming now.

When we ran out of LEGO some of us made really interesting creations, with a construction barn set and with magnets.
We love constructing things and we love programming.
