Visit from a Product Developer for Boston Scientific

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
We had another wonderful visit from a mammy in this class. Debra works as a product developer for Boston Scientific and had lots of interesting things to tell us about her job. Debra brought us a life sized picture of the inside of a human body - to tell us all about veins, arteries, and the job that the heart does in our bodies. She told us that people who eat too much fatty foods can end up with blockages to their arteries. When this happens the patients either need a stent to keep blocked arteries open, or else they have a little balloon put into their blocked artery. This balloon is blown up which in turn gets rid of the blockage, so blood can flow from the heart again. Debra 's company makes these balloons and she brought in a few of these balloons to show us.
We also heard from Debra about the hygiene at her work place. She has to wear a hair net and shoe coverings and a white coat when she is at work so that she keeps everywhere very clean. If she has a cold she also has to wear a mask when she is at work.
We really enjoyed Debra's talk, and want to thank her specially for all her preparation. Lots of us think that Debra has a very important job and would like to have a job like this when we are bigger.
