Volcanoes

We are learning a song about a volcano:
PopoAmeca2zoom.jpg
Popocatépetl is a big volcano far away in Mexico.
Today we made our own volcanoes.
We used vinegar and bread soda for the basic volcanoes (and red food colour and wash-up liquid for the deluxe volcanoes).
Our fancy little volcano wasn't all that impressive, unlike the one we made ourselves in a small Benecol bottle.

How does it work?
Vinegar and bread soda react together to make a gas (Carbon Dioxide). It is this gas that makes the volcano look as if it is erupting.
We were even able to use the Carbon Dioxide gas from our little volcano to blow up a balloon.
That was really impressive!
