Seeds and Light

We want to find out if plants really do need light to grow.
Before we planted our seeds we decided what we should do.
We thought we should try to grow one plant on the window sill where there is lots of light, and one plant in the cófra where it is dark all the time.
We predict that the plant (or plants) on the window sill will grow very well (if we remember to water them!) but the plants in the cófra won't grow at all.
We will check on them regularly to see what happens!
We can't wait to see what happens to all our cress seeds.
After a week:
The seeds on the window sill are green and growing well.
The seeds in the cófra are growing but are very yellow.
After 2 weeks:
At the end of October:

3D shapes

We are learning all about 3D shapes.
We can name spheres, cuboids, cubes, cones, cylinders, triangular pyramids, square pyramids, triangular prisms and hexagonal prisms.
We are able to sort and classify the shapes according to colour, size, whether they roll or not, whether they stack or not, by shapes of their faces and by corners.
We love learning about 3D shapes.

Latest note: 2nd classes confirmation note, Home school liaison note  (Note given: Monday, September 26th, 2016)

Using our instruments for music

We have lots of different types of instruments.
Can you see the xylophones, tambourines, drums, symbols, triangles, bells, shakers, maracas, thunder stick, rainmaker, whistles, castanets, guiro?
Some are shaken, some are blown, some are struck but all are percussion instruments.
We had a lot of fun playing them.

Using 2D and 3D shapes to make air rockets

We wanted to make rocket tops that we can launch with teacher's rocket launcher.
We discovered that a 2D circle can change into a cone just by cutting the middle half way and squeezing with our fingers.
We discovered that a rectangular card can be rolled to make a cylinder.
We know that triangles will make great fins.

Now we are ready to assemble our own rockets.
Our rockets are ready for launching now!

Oisín in Tír na nÓg

We have been learning and re-telling the story of Oisín in Tír na nÓg.
We thought you might like to see some photographs of the story (we made these in our drama lesson).
Can you see Oisín and his dad Fionn MacCumhaill standing with the Fianna.
Isn't it interesting how the Fianna all have swords and sheilds?
Can you see Oisín and Niamh on Niamh's white horse as they head off to Tír na nÓg?
Can you see Oisín leaning down from his horse to help some men lift a very heavy rock?
Can you see the very elderly Oisín talking to some younger men about life long ago in the time of the Fianna?
We really are enjoying this story!

Toilet Roll Birds

Some of the birds we see near our school are getting ready to migrate to warmer countries.
We have made some cute birds.
Can you see how we used toilet rolls, paint, card and paint to make our friendly birds?
They look wonderful now that we have given them ears, a beak and claws!
