Conkers and Blackberries

We are starting to see the first signs of Autumn.  With the strong winds yesterday, lots of leaves and apples are falling off the trees.  Teacher went for a walk yesterday and picked some blackberries, and chestnuts with conkers inside for us to see.
Did you know that chestnuts fall from the Horse Chestnut tree?  These chestnuts can be smooth or spiky, and inside them are conkers, sometimes one or sometimes two or three.  Teacher told us about a conker game she played when she was a little girl.  We might try planting a conker and see can we grow our own Horse Chestnut tree.
Did you know that blackberries start off as white or pink flowers which turn into green berries.

These berries turn red and then black.  They are delicious when they are black and juicy. We talked too about how blackberry seeds are spread (watch out for bird poo...at this time of the year it is purple instead of its usual white colour....and we know why!!!)
