Alternative energy

We know that we can get electricity from wind, water (hydro electricity), sun (solar power), batteries, burning peat or coal.  We like electricity from wind water and sun the best since these forms of energy are readily available and never run out.

Marshmallow maths

Look at the bridge from our train set.  We know it is very strong, probably because of all the triangles in it.
Can you spot the other shapes?
We found triangles, squares, circles, rectangles, semi circles and even some pentagons.
Can you find all these shapes?

Compass

We talked about compasses today and we watched some Tig Tag videos about magnets and compasses.
Tomorrow teacher is going to have a magnet morning and she is going to show us how to make our own compasses.

Logic train

We used our logic blocks to make a train.
This was some really difficult problem solving.
Each piece in the train could differ by only one attribute (colour, size, shape or thickness) from the piece in front.  What a challenge!

Learning about long ago

We are learning about life long ago.
We have asked some of our grandparents to come and tell us all about life long ago.
Today Caimin brought us in a great book about what life was like during World War II.
We looked at the pictures and had a great talk about life during that time.

Polar Penguins

Check out these great National Geographic Kids sites about penguins:

Basketball with Katie

We began with basketball bounce passes.  We had to bounce our basketball into the hoop and then to our partners.  We had lots of turns to dribble and shoot into the nets.  Some of us are really good at this.

Early primroses

Although it is very early in the year, teacher spotted these primroses in her garden on January 4th, 2013.
It looks like the slugs have noticed the primroses too!

Electrical circuits

Look at the amazing lighthouses made at home.
They look really realistic.
Oops, it's a monster, not a lighthouse!

LEGO Gearing down

We are enjoying trying out the various programming buttons - some of which we can figure out, and some of which remain a mystery, even to teacher!
