Happy Holidays

Wishing the parents and families of all in Room 5
A Very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year
Enjoy the holidays everyone!

Happy Holidays

Our Advent Calendar is all open at last (even though it is still only December 21st!)
It was time to enjoy ourselves after working hard for the whole term.
We also had to say "Goodbye" to Maite.  She had her last day with us today, and is heading back to Spain to be a teacher there.  We wish her every luck with her studies and her teaching.  Come back and visit us any time Maite, we will really miss you!

Pocket Rocket readers

Teacher has a set of 18 different readers (10 of each).  They are just perfect for us to be able to read all together in class.  We love the pictures and the easy stories.
Teacher usually reads 3 stories in the same day with the class.  We were able to figure out that it will take us 6 days to read the whole set.  WE LOVE READING!

Learning all about Poland

We saw a great presentation on Poland and learned about the flag (white and red), the symbol of Poland  (an eagle with a crown), the 4 distinct seasons in Poland (we especially loved to see all the gorgeous white powdery snow, we are so jealous!), and Christmas celebrations.
We were really surprised to hear that turkey is not the traditional Christmas food.  Instead in Poland the big Christmas meal is eaten on Christmas Eve and consists of 12 distinct dishes (in honour of the 12 apostles).   We really liked the look of the fish dish and the beatroot with dumpling soup!
The Christmas dishes are not eaten until you have seen the first star of Christmas Eve in the sky.  What a lovely custom!
Thanks so much to Lukasz, Kasia and Martin for such a wonderful presentation.
We would very much like to visit Poland if we ever get the chance!

LEGO: Idler Gear

We used our toy cogs to see which way each cog would turn if we twisted only one cog.
If we have two cogs they spin in opposite directions, but if we have 3 cogs, the two outside cogs spin in the same direction while the middle one spins in the opposite direction.  The same happens with our lego cogs.

Pneumatic and hydraulic toys

Look at the pneumatic and hydraulic toys we have made.
They work really well.
