A new train in our class

One of our girls brought her train set from home, and some of the children in the class set it up and played with it this morning.  She also brought different kinds of engines.  We had a lot of fun with all of these.

Our Amaryllis flower

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Our teacher got a present at Christmas time of an Amaryllis bulb.  We have been looking after it, and giving it water when it needs it.  It is growing a lot each day.  Look at it now.  We expect it to flower quite soon.  We can't wait to see what kind of flower it has, and what colour it will turn out to be.

Hello Kitty cake

It was Aoife's birthday last Wednesday.  Now she is 6!  She had her party at the weekend, and today she brought us a gorgeous Kitty cake for all to taste.  It was a shame to cut Kitty up, but the cake was delicious!!!

A tangram bridge

We are talking a lot about shapes, and about bridges.  Here is a bridge made from tangram shapes.
Look at the fantastic kite made only from triangles stuck together!

Féile Drámaíochta: The Results

We are very proud of our performance in Inverin last Tuesday.  The judges had lots of great things to say about our acting and our play.  Unfortunately this is the end of the road for us, but we wish a hearty "Congratulations" to Ms. Tierney's class who will be representing our school in the next round of the competition.  Well done to all!

SPHE and the Galway Train Crash

There was a crash between a train and a car very near our school on Monday. Luckily noone was injured.   It happened at an un manned railway crossing.  We had a good chat today about how to stay safe at crossings, and especially how we should keep level crossing gates closed at all times.  We know now to be sure and look carefully in both directions when crossing railway lines and not to play on the railway lines.  We know that it is impossible for trains to stop quickly - they are very heavy and they travel very fast so they need time to stop.  Have a look at the newspaper articles we found on this incident:
