Orienteering and ribbon balls

We tried some basic orienteering.
It was fun finding the animals and colouring them in the correct colours!
We are quite good at orienteering.
We also played with the ribbon balls.
We really enjoy throwing and catching them.
They look so nice as they fly through the air!

What does a plant need to grow?

What does a plant need to grow?
Soil, water and light.
We planted 4 pots of cress.
We gave no water to one pot.  These seeds didn't even begin to grow.
We gave no soil to one pot (we gave it tissue instead).   These seeds are growing, but not very well.
We gave no light to one pot.  These seeds are growing, but not very well, and they are turning yellow.
The final pot of seeds is growing really well.
We can't wait to see what will happen next week.

Designing boats

Did you know that a ball of marla sinks?
We tried this out and it is true.
Teacher gave each of us exactly the same sized sphere of marla.
We had to make a boat that could float.
When we got our boats to float teacher gave us passengers (dried peas) to put in to our boats.
We had to try and load the boat with as many passengers as we could.
The winning boat was able to take 24 passengers before it sank!

Flying kites

It was a lovely sunny, windy day.
Perfect weather for flying kites.
It is so lucky that we made lovely kites this week.
We got a chance to fly them.
Such fun!

Making kites

We made kites in school today.
We started off with a rectangular piece of paper.
We folded down a triangle, then cut off the spare little rectangle.
We ended up with a square or a diamond.
Teacher helped us put on the skewers to make the kite nice and strong.
We loved choosing tails.
Here are our finished kites.
We can't wait to fly them on our next sunny but windy day.

Using the parachute

We have a parachute at school.
We really enjoy walking and running with it like a wheel.
We can make a mushroom and a tent.
We put balls on top of the parachute and make them bounce in the air.
We love working together and co-operating with each other.

Learning about water safety

We are learning lots about water safety with a Captain Bird's Eye disc that teacher has.
Here are some of the things we are learning about:

Baby caterpillars

We ordered baby caterpillars and today they arrived by post.
We were delighted.
The 5 little caterpillars are SOOO small.
We can't wait to see our caterpillars spin cocoons, then emerge as butterflies.
We wonder how long this will take?

Volcanoes

We are learning all about Volcanoes.
Here is what we know about volcanoes.
Check out this video on TWIG Science.
Making a LEGO volcano:

Billy's Bucket

We are reading a fantastic book about Billy's bucket.
We are also having fun with drama based on this story.

In one scenario teacher was Billy and we were his parents.
Billy wanted a bucket for his birthday present and we had to try to put him off.
In the next scenario we were all buckets in the bucket shop and we each had to try and persuade Billy that we were the best bucket to pick.  Billy in our class finally chose a glow in the dark bucket. How cool!
In our last scenario Billy looked into his bucket and could see right down to the bottom of the ocean.
We all had a look in Billy's bucket and we told teacher what each of us could see.
We love this story.
More drama from our story:

Yum!

They will look so good when they are finished.
