St. Patrick's Day art

We have been busy getting ready for St. Patrick's Day. We made badges and some lovely jumping leprechauns.

Our school in the parade

Scoil Chaitríona Senior has a band in tomorrow's St. Patrick's Day parade.

They went on a practice run around Renmore today. We all went out to see the practice. It was great. We can't wait for St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing our friends and our families marching in the parade.

The Lifecycle of the frog

We have been looking closely at the frog spawn teacher saw.
This is what it looked like on Sunday, March 1st.
Now some of the tadpoles have emerged from the frog spawn.
This is what they looked like on Wednesday, March 11th. It is really amazing watching them grow.March 16th. This is Toby. He is our strongest tadpole. He loves swimming surrounded by the frogspawn that will soon turn into more tadpoles - friends for Toby. April 3rd, 2009. These are Mrs. Geraghty's tadpoles. She is feeding them fish food and lettuce. They seem to love it. They are happy tadpoles!

On April 20th, our tadpoles have grown a lot. They now have back legs, eyes and the beginnings of front legs. We can even see toes. They swim really fast now. They love their dinners of lettuce leaves and fish food.

Greenwave - Buds in Spring

We went on a nature walk yesterday. We saw lots of different kinds of buds. We liked the Ash and the Horse Chestnut buds. Ash buds are small and black. Horse Chestnut buds are brown and sticky. We also saw the horseshoe shapes on the branches of the horse chestnut trees. We will be watching these trees to see if we can see when the bud burst happens - when the new green leaves burst out of the buds.

Drinking Daffodils

We were wondering how daffodils get the water they need to grow. Do they drink the rain through their petals, or drink it through their stems? We think that they get water through their stems. We tested this by putting food colouring in the water that the daffodils are drinking. We left the daffodils overnight. Sure enough, after only one night in coloured water we can see the colours in the petals of the daffodils.

Spring Art

We are talking a lot about spring, baby animals and frogs. Today we made some lovely spring lambs out of cotton wool. We hope to see baby lambs in the fields too.

Look at the lovely stain glass windows we made after talking about stain glass windows in churches.

A bat in our class

Jordan found a little bat by his window at home. Unfortunately it had died. He brought it in to school to show us all. We all had a look at the bat. We could see its wings, tail, ears, toes. We wonder what happened to it.

Drumming lessons

Our class are learning to drum. We are having lessons with Alan.
We have great fun.

We do warm up exercises, play drumming games like blindfish and drum and dance. We are learning lots of great drumming beats.

Planting Seeds

Today we planted some seeds. We are trying to grow tomatoes from seed. Teacher brought in some soil and some compost from her garden. We talked about compost and how to make good compost from left-over food and peelings. We had 13 tomato seeds. We wonder how many will grow. Tomorrow we are going to plant broad beans. We put them into a cup of water overnight to help soften the seeds. Tomorrow we are going to plant them in some interesting ways.
March 19th 2009. Look at how big our broad beans have grown.

Féile Scoildrámaíochta

We are ready to perform now. Our story Teach Ró-Bheag is interesting. Look at our great costumes. We have a family, farmers, postmen, milkman, gardaí, doctors, a nurse, firemen and painters.
Tá muid ag baint an-taitneamh as an bhFéile Dramaíochta. Tá muid réidh anois le gach rud, agus ag tnú go mór leis an gcomórtas ar an Déardaoin.
