Harvesting potatoes

Kay helped us today in the garden.

We planted out the runner beans that have been climbing up the pipes in our classroom.

We removed slugs and snails, threw away dead leaves and best of all we harvested potatoes and ate some lovely fresh cabbage and lettuce.

 We look forward to a tasty dinner of organic spuds and cabbage!

Intensive literacy

We do intensive literacy each day.

Each group either plays a literacy game, reads their readers with a teacher or does some writing tasks.

We love our ILL time every day.

Hexie snap time

We had a great time this morning following directions to make patterns from our Hexie snaps

Butterfly art

On a lovely sunny day in June, we did our art outside, either in the sun or in the shade.

We used our marbled paper to trace and cut out butterflies.

They look great flying on their black backgrounds.

We tried colouring butterflies on the ground but the ground was too bumpy so we coloured against the window.

Look at the beautiful butterflies we made!

LEGO league

Last night we presented our Disaster Blaster LEGO league project in the Radisson hotel.

We had to man a table and show all other schools the wonderful inventions we designed, made and programmed, to help lesson the effects of disasters on the world around us.

We had a wonderful night, and we did our school proud!

LEGO league tonight!

We have talked mostly about volcanoes as part of the LEGO league display.

Today we talked about wild fires: how they start, how they spread, how they can be so dangerous to humans and wildlife.

Some of us will go to the Radisson hotel tonight for the Junior First LEGO league presentation.

We can't wait to see our work on display.

Cocoons at last

3 weeks after our butterflies arrived in our classroom they are now all in cocoons.

We have five beautiful cocoons.

We gave each a name.

Then we put them on card and put them into our butterfly garden.

We notice that Sparks is the smallest, and Rainbow is the biggest.

We are looking forward to seeing our beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.

Practising for sports day

We had fun practising for our sports day.

We had fun with the eggs and spoons and the sacks.

Watching a nest

There is a Willie Wagtail nest in our shed.

Mike our caretaker has hooked up a camera in the staffroom.

We have been keeping an eye on the nest of five eggs. 

We can't wait to see the eggs hatch.
