Diogo and his frogs


Thank you so much for teaching us all about frogs today Diogo!

Poor caterpillars

 Teacher found some more caterpillars and was going to bring them to school to show everyone.
Unfortunately these caterpillars had parasites inside them.  The parasites are coming out through the skin of the caterpillars and these caterpillars are now dead.  Teacher felt so sorry for them that she let them go in her garden.  Poor caterpillars.  These ones will never turn into butterflies!

More water rockets

We really enjoyed launching the water rockets. We thought these ones were extremely exciting. We loved these ones because they went so high up in the air. One rocket went so high that it landed on the roof. We hope the super Mike will go up and get it soon.

We are learning about space at the moment.
Today we launched our water rockets outside.
This was so exciting.
We all had a turn launching the rocket (though it was easier with teacher's help).
One of our rockets landed on the roof, but we hope that our wonderful caretaker will help us recover this rocket!

Parasitic wasps

Remember the eggs under the caterpillar?
 The parasitic wasps have now hatched but the caterpillar has died.
Teacher let the wasps out into the wild after school.

Look at the colours

Here are some Autumn leaves.  The colours are spectacular!
Well done to Caimin and James for such colourful autumn leaves.

Roots on the Hyacinth bulb

After only one week, look at how the roots have grown on our Hyacinth bulb.

Weather woman!

 We check the weather each day.
 We check the thermometer to see how hot or cold it is today.
We check the rain gauge to see how much rain fell while we were at school.
We record the daily weather on a calendar in our classroom.

Balancing at PE

 Our PE class started with a great game of "What time is it Mr. Wolf?"
 Then on to some great balancing!

The Earth, the sun and the moon

We are learning all about the sun, the moon and the earth.
We used a huge bouncy ball as the sun, the little football as the earth, and the tiny magnetic ball as the moon.
We were able to spin these around, just as the planets and the moon spin in space.
We are learning a great song about the planets too.

Treasures from home


Helicopters

We discovered that we can make the helicopters twist in the opposite direction just by folding the wings in the opposite direction.  We brought our helicopters home so that we can have fun with them at home.
We can understand why sycamore trees are so clever with their seeds....the little seeds are carried by the wind in their helicopters and they land not too close to the big sycamore tree.  In that way the little sycamore trees can have all the light and food they need to grow big and strong.

Racing colours

We could see the colours yellow and blue spreading from the green spot, red and yellow spreading from the orange spot, pink and blue spreading from the purple spot and yellow, pink and blue spreading from the brown spot. We were really fascinated.

A signed hurley

We had a visit from a boy in another senior infant class.
He welcomed the Galway hurlers home last night and got his hurley signed.
It was so interesting to see.
He might be on the Galway hurling team in years to come!

Hyacinth bulb

 Teacher brought a hyacinth bulb to school today.
We are hoping it will grow into a lovely pink, sweet smelling hyacinth flower.
Teacher cut the bottom out of a yoghurt pot and the hyacinth bulb sits in this pot.
The roots just barely touch the water.
We are hoping to see nice long roots before too long.
Our hyacinth should look like this in few months!
